Rules and regulations for pneumology classes
- The method of conducting classes
- Classes are conducted in the form of seminars and practical classes/ (laboratories), in stationary or remote e-learning method, in accordance with the current schedule of classes. Remote classes can be conducted in a synchronous (online communication between the student and the teacher) and asynchronous formula. Classes in the asynchronous formula are placed on the SUM e-learning platform. The lecturer has instruments for assessing whether the student watched and listened to the whole seminar presented asynchronously. It is allowed during or at the end of the seminar to conduct a test to assess the assimilation of information provided during classes.
- Depending on the epidemiological situation related to COVID-19, the formula of the classes may be changed, and the classes may take the form of stationary classes, e-learning or hybrid courses in accordance with the orders of the Rector of the Medical University of Silesia.
- Topics of seminars and practical classes (laboratories), information on the form of classes and timetable are available on the SUM e-learning platform, in the secretariat of the department and on the information board located in the Department / Clinic.
- Rules for admitting the student to particular classes
- The condition for admission to classes is punctual attendance, having a medical apron, stethoscope and changeable footwear. In order to avoid the accumulation of large numbers of students when entering the hospital, during the compulsory body temperature measurement and when using the locker room, to individual student groups will be allocated a time frame for these activities. In addition to class schedule, the student will also receive information about the time at which he should report to the hospital entrance. In the case of e-learning classes, it is recommended to log in on time from your account to the e-learning platform and to appear on the list of meeting participants and actively participate during the entire meeting.
- During the classes, basic ethical and moral principles, proper attitude towards the patient and the staff of the Department and Clinic must be observed.
- During the practical classes, the student is provided with personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, protective aprons, liquids for disinfection), just like the employed medical Staff.
- The student is required to have theoretical preparation according to the subject of practical classes (laboratories) and seminars, in particular completing eLearning studies. Failure to prepare for classes may result in failure to complete the classes with the necessity to make up for or pass the classes within the time limit agreed with the teacher.
- The student is obliged to maintain medical confidentiality and protect personal data in accordance with the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
- The student is obliged to have a student ID during the classes and to show it at the request of the teachers.
- The method and forms of making up for backlogs, including making up for classes due to absences
- All absences require making up, In the case of 30% absence of total program the Dean is informed.
- Absence from the classes should be made up after prior arrangement with the course cooridinator with an oral or written course credit or with participation in classaes with another course group. The student is obliged to make up for the classes in the form in which the classes were missed, i.e. if the student have missed the classes that were carried out online, the student does them online, analogously, the stationary classes are done using the stationary method. Deviations from this rule are possible with the consent of the Exercise Manager
- Absence from the seminar held in a full-time stationary form should be credited by the person conducting the seminar.
- The seminar classes carried out by the e-learning method should be carried out by the student before the practical classes. A student who did not participate in the seminar classes will not be allowed to participate in the practical classes
- Missing classes requires a formal excuse for the absence. The student should make up for the missed classes after acknowledging the justification by the course coordinator.
- The student's absence from classes due to:
a/ participation in meetings of collegial bodies of the University,
b/ official representation of the University outside
c/ activities for the University organized or co-organized by the Student Government,
d/ participation in the resit examination
are excused without the need to make up for, in accordance with §15 point 2 of the Study Regulations
- In the event of the imposition / obligation of quarantine and for other reasons making it impossible to complete stationary classes according to the schedule, a new date for making up for the classes will be set
- Conditions and methods of passing the course credits
- Class credit is made by the academic teacher conducting the classes.
Course credit takes the form of a single-choice test, either in writing or orally. Failure to report within the appointed period (without justification) is tantamount to a failing grade.
- The student is additionally assessed during practical classes(laboratories) and seminars on the current topic of classes.
- The scope of the required material for each day is announced in the schedule of the teaching departemnt.
- Retake credit is carried out in oral or written way, depending on the arrangements of the teaching department conducting the classes, and takes place until the end of the examination session. A student who did not obtain the credit in the first term is entitled to two retake credits.
- Failure to pass the second retake results in an unsatisfactory grade and, consequently, not being allowed to pass the final exam.
- In special / random situations, with the consent of the head of the department conducting the classes, the student may proceed with the credit at a later date - in accordance with the Study Regulations.
5.Practical exam
- The practical exam is an integral part of completing the course. Students who have made up for their absences (§3) and obtained a credit in the subject (§4) are admitted to the practical examination.
- Receiving a negative grade for the practical exam results in not being allowed to pass the test and in a negative grade within a particular exam date.
- During the exam, it is forbidden to have / use electronic devices that enable communication with other people at a distance or to use materials and teaching aids not approved by the examiners.
- In special / random situations, with the consent of the head of the department conducting the classes, the student may take the practical exam at a later date - in accordance with the Study Regulations
- The practical exam consists of elements assessing the practical approach to the patient, technique of medical examination, clinical inference, differential diagnosis, treatment.
- Individual components of the exam are:
-anamnesis and physical examination of the patient
-analysis of the medical tests’ results
-interpretation of clinical picture, differential diagnosis
- The course of the examination and the change of the formula from the stationary examination to the remote examination may be partially or completely modified depending on the current epidemiological situation related to COVID-19 and in accordance with the order of the Rector
- The conditions for admitting a student to the so-called the "0" exam date (ahead the schedule) and the rules for its implementation
- The condition for admitting the student to the "0" exam date (ahead the schedule) is obtaining a very good grade on the practical exam with the note from the examiner / course coordinator / head of department- " the "0" exam date has been proposed".
- The Course Coordinator decides about admitting the student to the "0" exam date (ahead the schedule), taking into account the student's previous progress in particular.
- The "0" exam date (ahead the schedule) is oral and is taken before a committee. The composition of the committee is determined by the head of the clinic or by the coordinator of the subject (for subjects conducted by more than one department). The date of the exam is set each time in consultation with the applicants.
7.Test exam (internal medicine including the programm of pulmonology)
- The test consists of a maximum of 120 single-choice questions. To pass, it is necessary to obtain 70% correct answers. In special situations (e.g. taking into account the degree of difficulty of the questions, the number of questioned tasks), the organizer of the test and the Dean may agree to lower the threshold to the values specified in the rules of conducting test exams at SUM.
- The condition for admission to the test exam is passing the practical exam. Lack of a positive grade in the practical exam results in the lack of admission and an unsatisfactory grade in the test exam. A student who has received an unsatisfactory grade has two retake dates, in the oral or test form.
- In special / random situations, with the consent of the head of the department conducting the classes, the student may take the exam at a later date - in accordance with the Study Regulations.
- The rules of conducting the examination before an examination board are defined in the Study Regulations.
- The scope of the examination material is consistent with the subject syllabus. Due to the constant progress of knowledge, students are asked to check the current year of books’ publication before starting classes in a particular academic year.
- In order to pass the course, it is required to obtain a positive grade from the practical exam and the test exam. In the final grade, the following proportions of the share of individual partial grades are assumed: 1/3 of the practical exam grade + 2/3 of the theoretical exam grade.
- Additional arrangements
- Disputes are resolved by the course coordinator or the head of the department.
- The student has the opportunity to use the consultation hours after prior arrangement with the secretariat of the department. Complaints and comments regarding the course of the practical classes are received by the course coordinator or the head of the department.
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training for students takes place on the first day of the class. The teachers on the first day of the class discuss the rules of these Regulations. Students are required to read these Regulations and sign that they have read them.
